SQM controls all its operations through an Environmental Management System (SGA
- Sistema de Gestión Ambiental) defined by the company itself and
based on the ISO 14.000 standard. This implies continuous monitoring and control
of each one of its operations, in order to make sure they are clean, safe and consistent
with the standards established by its own environmental policy.
Training the employees of SQM and all the personnel that provides services to the
company has been a key element within the system implementation process. Each member
of SQM has been given the necessary tools to implement the company's environmental
policy, understanding the impact of their specific work on the environment.
For years, SQM's work has been supported by researches and technical studies of
the highest level. One example are the studies performed by the company with CONAF
and the Pontificia Universidad Católica in the Salar de Atacama.
The result: Today SQM has a wide experience in investigation and a great number
of scientific publications that are a contribution to knowledge.
All this scientific and technical development makes it certain the company's operations,
backed up by Chilean and international experts, tread on firm land in terms of environmental
management.
