One of the new challenges of SQM in matter of safety is to generate and root -in
each one of its collaborators- a deep preventive and personal care culture. A philosophy
that visualises any accident, as small as it can be, as avoidable and unacceptable.
More than an imposed task, it is an individual compromise of each employee with
himself, his family and the company. It must be consolidated in the structure of
each one of SQM's members and for this purpose, it must be seen as a permanent and
transcendent value.
SQM has taken concrete measures to move forward in this sense and to reinforce self-care
concept. Thus, it has elaborated plans to strengthen safety, such as the loss control
programme or the training of preventive techniques, focused on employees and supervisors
of the company.
In the same aspect, it develops special programmes for the company's contractors:
a more intense training increases the safety standards they practice while participating
in SQM's operations and a special regulation allows to strengthen the service and
quality to the company and its customers around the world.
The implementation of a risk management system will be the next step of SQM in this
matter. It will enable the effective control of programmes and actions that aim
at the continuous improvement of the performance of the company in this area.
