Results from some trails conducted in asparagus crops which demonstrate the effect of certain nutrients in the crops development are presented as follows.

Nutrients´ balance and crop’s yield:

An adequate balance is important on the NPK relations for obtaining high crop yields.

the figure shows different crop yields obtained with 3 NPK soluble mixtures applied through fertirrigation. The highest yields were obtained when Ultrasol® line products were applied.

Nutrients´ Absorption:

N, P y K: The absorption rate of these elements continues progressively increasing from the season’s initiation until the 3er sprouting, slightly decreasing until the 4th sprouting. These changes were not great, even though, the crop received a constant supply of nutrients.

Ca: The absorption was slightly superior in the first 3er sproutings and later was significant superior in the 4th sprouting, which proved its low mobility in the plant and its accumulation afterwards.

Mg: It showed a considerable constant behavior during all the growing season of the crop.

Dry matter evolution:

Generally, there was not a great variability during all the cycle. Even though, the foliage showed an increment in the 2nd sprouting, decreasing gradually until the 3er and the 4th sprouting, near the harvest.

In relation to the dry matter reserves in the roots, this shows a progressive increment during the cycle, reaching the highest values near the 4th sprouting, which means a greater carbohydrate accumulation.

The small increments in dry matter content in the roots proved that there is an additive accumulation of reserves in each sprouting generation.
