Foliar Applied Ultrasol® K Results in more Yield

On 23rd July 2010, at the research farm of the Directorate of Rice Research, Rajendranagar, Hyderabad, India, a field trial was started on Krishnahamsa, a high yielding medium duration rice variety. The soil characteristics of the trial field are summed up in Table 1. The aim was to compare the results between foliar sprays of Speedfol™ Rice SP (13-0-42 + 0,2% B + 0,7% Zn), Ultrasol® K, and with water only, at 3 different soil-applied K levels. The experiment was designed as a randomized block design with a 20 cm x 10 cm spacing, using 25 day old seedlings. There were 27 plots in total: 3 foliar treatments, 3 soil K levels, and 3 replicates (Table 2).

Identical amounts of K were applied with both K containing products. Grain yield, straw yield, plant height, number of tillers per m², number of panicles per m², panicle weight and 1.000-grain weight were recorded at the maximum tillering stage and at the maturity stage. Harvesting took place on 11/11/10.

Speedfol™ Rice SP and Ultrasol® K Increased Rice Grain Yield up to 14% in India.

For all analyzed plant growth and yield parameters, Speedfol™ Rice SP and Ultrasol® K outperformed the control treatment, whereas the best results were obtained with Speedfol™ Rice SP. Furthermore, all analyzed parameters followed the same downward trend when soil K levels were reduced from 100% to 75% to 50% of the recommended K fertiliser dose rate.

Figure 1 shows that 3 foliar applications with 9,5 kg Speedfol™ Rice SP per ha per spray increased rice grain yield with 670 kg/ha (+14%) compared with the control and calculated as an average of the 3 different soil K application dose rates.

Figure 1 also shows that 3 foliar applications with 9 kg Ultrasol® K per ha per spray increased rice grain yield with 480 kg/ha (+10%), compared to the control (water only).

It can be concluded that the presence of B and Zn in the Speedfol™ Rice SP formulation increased rice grain yield with 190 kg/ha (+4%), compared to Ultrasol® K.
