Yesterday, SQM announced the signing of an agreement with LG to supply 55 thousand metric tons of battery-grade lithium carbonate and lithium hydroxide. The agreement will be in force from 2021 to 2029.
This is a major milestone for our company as it leverages our growth strategy and solidifies us as one of the leading players in the global lithium industry, especially as producers of high-quality lithium for producing electric vehicle batteries.

“We are very pleased with this agreement because it demonstrates the trust that highly demanding customers, like LG, place in us,” commented Pablo Altimiras, Lithium and Iodine Commercial Senior VP, who then added that “it demonstrates SQM’s stability and future prospects. LG Energy Solutions is an important player in the market, one of the largest battery manufacturers, and the fact that they chose us indicates that we are doing things right.”

“At SQM we work to strengthen this type of long-term relationship, to continue being competitive and developing commercial solutions based on the different needs of each customer, who value both the quality of our products and the sustainability of our operations, and our concern for the environment,” remarked Altimiras.

Battery-grade lithium carbonate is necessary and vital for the production of high-quality cathodes, an essential component of the cells in electric vehicle batteries.
Yet another step to boost the development of electromobility, considered the sustainable future of the automotive industry.
